Revamping Education for Gifted and ALL Learners

As outlined in the District's 2005-2008 Strategic Plan, one of the District's strategic initiatives is to revamp gifted education throughout Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS) by imporving the overall quality and ensuring greater equity and access for traditionally underrepresented students. Consequent to the approval of Agenda item B-14, proffered by Dr. Martin Karp, Member, The School Board of Miami-Dade County, Florida, at the August 17, 2005 meeting, the Gifted Task Force was formed to address specific issues related to each focus area of gifted education. The Gifted Task Force focused on the quality and availability of the programs Districtwide, the rigor, content and instructional integrity of these programs, as well as the underrepresentation of minority students participating in gifted and advanced academic programs.
